The GNU Privacy Guard

• Overview

  The GNU Privacy Guard (GnuPG) is a complete implementation of the OpenPGP Internet standard as described in RFC2440. It is used for digital encryption and signing of data and mainly useful for offline communication (email) and data storage.

• Status

  GnuPG is now in beta test.

• Availability

  Due to U.S. export restrictions on cryptograhic software, the program is not distributed via the standard GNU archives but from an European FTP site and it's mirrors.

• Features
  • Full interoperability with other modern encryption programs.
  • Meets all requirements of a standard Unix utility.
  • Uses DSA, ElGamal, 3DES and Twofish as encryption algorithms. A lot of other algorithms are also supported.
  • Easy implementation of new algorithms using extension modules.
  • Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Polish, Russian and Spanish language support.
  • Online help system
  • Optional anonymous message receivers.
  • Integrated support for HKP keyservers.
  • Runs on most Unix platforms and support for other platforms is coming soon.
